Caring for the Community

save 10 percent off any product or serviceAn active involvement in the community is one aspect of Havingtons we take great pride in. We believe that it’s important to stay in touch with the local community and issues of importance that are affecting them.

Community involvement and Indigenous initiatives are of key interest to Havingtons and in particular the Rioli Foundation.

Havingtons Hair & Beauty has partnered with The Rioli Fund for Aboriginal Health to help raise much needed awareness and funds for research into Indigenous child and mental health issues.

Did you know that Indigenous babies are three times more likely to die before their first birthday than non-Indigenous babies?  That seven out of 10 Indigenous children have scabies or skin sores in their first year of life, and that pneumonia is the single biggest killer of children around the world and that Aboriginal children have possibly the highest rate of the disease?

Did you know that Indigenous Australians are three times more likely to be admitted to hospital with mental disorders?  That there has been an 80 percent increase in the suicide rate since 1981 in our Indigenous population compared to a 30 percent increase in the non-Indigenous population, and that with these damning facts there is still very little known about what works and what doesn’t work in Indigenous mental health.

Together, Havingtons Hair & Beauty and The Rioli Fund will help the Menzies School of Health Research find the answers and practical, long term solutions to some of the issues above, by raising awareness of the dire health situation faced by our Indigenous Australians and helping to raise much needed funds for their research.

More information about the partnership will be available shortly, but watch this space for upcoming events and activities, involving some of your favourite AFL personalities.
