Do you have parking available?
Since we are located in the heart of the Melbourne CBD, there is no direct parking available. However, there are parking complexes nearby and side alley parking access, in addition to all public transport.
Is it necessary to buy professional products?
Yes, yes and yes and believe it or not professional products are about more than having nice bottles in your shower that smell good. Clients often spend upwards of $200 on their colour service but then go home and use a supermarket or chemist shampoo, just to have their colour fade in days. Professional products are specifically formulated with ingredients that preserve colour while improving the overall health and integrity of your hair. Unfortunately, supermarket and chemist brands can't afford to incorporate essential ingredients and as such offer a lesser value. In the case of hair, you definitely do get what you pay for and a few more dollars can prevent you having to pay the ultimate price in years to come.
What is the difference between permanent colour and semi-permanent colour?
The main difference is that permanent colour is used when you are covering grey hair, and it will last until it grows out. Touch-ups are needed every four to six weeks depending on how fast your hair grows.
Semi-permanent colour is used to deposit colour onto the hair. It will not lift the natural hair colour and there will not be any demarcation lines as it grows out, it simply fades gradually. Semi-permanent colours are recommended for clients who don’t have grey hair or for those who are looking to change their hair colour without fear of irreversible change. Semi-permanents are also great for refreshing the ends of previous permanent hair colour or for clients who are new to colour.
What are highlights and low lights?
Highlights are lighter shades of colour that are strategically placed in the hair to create a look of contrast. Lowlights are darker shades of colour used to create depth. Altering between highlights and lowlights create a beautiful colour with a boastful dimension.
How do you stay up to date on the latest industry trends and techniques?
Considering that our goal is to have the most innovative and creative team of stylists, it is imperative that we continue to stay abreast on the latest techniques and industry trends. To ensure this objective is achieved and maintained, our stylists regularly attend classes, seminars and in-studio training sessions to ensure that they are able to provide the high quality services and results that our clients expect and reap the benefits of.
How do I keep my colour from fading?
It is best not to wash your hair or to go swimming for at least 24 to 48 hours after your colouring service. Your personal stylist will recommend the products most appropriate to your lifestyle and hair which will best uphold the integrity of your colour.
Why is my hair always greasy?
A greasy scalp in most cases is caused by over active oil glands, known as sebaceous. When you wash your hair, it is best not to have the water on hot and do not massage the scalp too much as this will aggravate the problem.
Can you suggest a hair style and colour that is tailored to the shape of my face and skin tone?
Yes. At Havingtons all of our designers are trained to evaluate your bone structure, eye colour and skin tone and to match your unique features to a certain style. Your best features will be accentuated and we can find a way to camouflage other areas, while keeping in mind the practicality of each look in relation to your lifestyle.
Will colouring or highlighting my hair damage it?
No. The products and techniques that we use at Havingtons mean that we are willing to produce amazing results, and having your hair in pristine condition is a part of that desire. The colour line we use, ‘Lakme’ is our colour product of choice. This is because it has very low amounts of ammonia formulated within it and is a soy-based. Lakme colour conditions, softens and boosts the hair fibers to obtain the perfect results for your hair from roots to ends.
What is colour correction?
‘Correction’ is normally thrown around in relation to a hair colour, but it can also be used to describe a hair cut, that may not be accentuating your features to their potential. At Havingtons we address a variety of problematic hair issues and understand that it can be very stressful for you to be unsatisfied. Our hair colour system has products that allow us to correct almost any situation or we can offer other options. We care about your hair, so we will not promise a result that will cause distress to you or your hair.
Will the Japanese straightener damage my hair?
No. The straightener we use is very gentle and is full of protein and collagen to produce a quality look. We take a lot of care in ensuring that your hair will be able to withstand straightening treatments by doing an elasticity test prior to your treatment.
How is the straightener permanent?
There are two ways that maintain permanently straight hair and that is by applying thermal heat and secondly the reconditioning that is involved. This allows us to straighten any existing hair. Once the hair is straightened it remains permanent. Depending on how fast your hair grows, you will need to apply the service to any outgrowth of hair which is usually done about every six to eight months.
How much will my hair relax with a semi permanent relaxer?
Your hair will relax somewhere between 60 to 80 percent, which is a good result for someone looking at this treatment. The treatment is generally needed to be redone between every three to four months depending on how fast your hair grows.
Are men able to have the same services in the salon as women?
Yes. All services that we offer across hair, nail and beauty are available to both men and women.
